Forum on U.S. Tax Reform in Wichita

8/23/2015

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kansas), sponsor of the Fair Tax Act of 2015 – legislation to overhaul and simplify the American tax system – will host a forum focused on tax reform in Wichita, Kansas, on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015. The conversation will focus on fixing the broken tax code, how a simplified tax code will help boost the economy, and the importance of protecting Americans from government intrusion by the IRS.  Those in attendance will hear what differentiates each tax system.

Joining Sen. Moran for the discussion will be Rep. Lynn Jenkins (KS-2) and special guest Steven Hayes, chairman and president of Americans for Fair Taxation as well as representatives from the Kansas FairTax Board. The forum will aim to highlight the problems with our broken current tax system and inform Kansans about the FairTax – a proposal to replace our complicated and costly income-based multiple tax system with one single national sales tax and render the Internal Revenue Service obsolete.  Click here to learn more about the FairTax.

“Overhauling the American tax system is not an easy undertaking, but the economic need for a leaner and fairer tax code has never been greater,” Sen. Moran said. “Reducing costly inefficiencies and the burden of filing taxes should be a priority in this Congress. The FairTax would place all taxpayers on equal footing, protect Americans from government intrusion by the IRS, boost business growth, and incentivize savings and investment – all while collecting revenue at levels similar to those of our current mess of a tax code."

Sen. Moran’s Forum on Tax Reform is open to the press and members of the public, and area residents are encouraged to attend. Doors will open for the event at 6:00 p.m. and opening remarks will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Following the speakers there will be a panel discussion with Q&A audience participation.

Choosing The Right Tax System For America

8/14/2015

MONDAY, AUGUST 17 – open at 6:00 P.M.

This is an event that will educate the public on current tax reform efforts including tax system alternatives.

We all know that the current complicated income tax system has become more than just a problem. Economically, it costs our government billions of dollars to administer and hundreds of billions of dollars in uncollected taxes. It provides the government power to collect too much personal information and impunity when bankrupting citizens without adequate evidence of tax evasion. It penalizes people and employers with enormous compliance and reporting costs and taxes the money they have earned instead of taxing sales from retail commerce. It stifles free speech using the threat built into tax classifications (churches, etc.).

Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kansas), sponsor of the Fair Tax Act of 2015 (senate bill S-155), and his staff, including his tax specialist who will be flying in from Washington D.C., will be hosting a free public forum to educate and discuss tax system alternatives. They are offering this public forum, in partnership with Americans For Fair Taxations (the FairTax), to provide you with an opportunity to learn what’s happening in Washington and in the Kansas Legislature. Attendees will hear the differences between the flat tax, value added tax, income tax and consumption tax alternatives. The conversation will focus on replacing the broken tax code with a simplified tax code that will help boost the economy, and the importance of protecting Americans from government intrusion by the IRS. Those in attendance will hear what differentiates each tax system.

Steve Hayes, chairman and president of AFFT (Americans For Fair Taxation), the FairTax, will by flying in from Florida to discuss tax system alternatives and why the FairTax is the best tax system.

Kansas Rep. John Rubin (R-Shawnee), primary sponsor of the Kansas FairTax proposal in the Kansas House of Representatives will where tax reform is going in the Kansas legislature and how it impacts you.

The Kansas FairTax Board will be available for questions.

This is a great opportunity to invite others who want to learn the difference between tax systems.
